Is AI Dangerous? A Realistic Look at the Risks
AI gets talked about in both terrifying and glowing terms. Both are exaggerated.
What AI is not
It’s not conscious. It doesn’t “think” or “feel” anything. It’s a program that predicts text. It won’t replace humans entirely — it’s a tool, not a worker.
Real risks
AI can invent facts confidently. This is called hallucination. It might claim a historical figure lived in 1850 when they didn’t. Verify important things.
Privacy is another concern. Everything you write to AI may potentially be used to train it. Don’t share passwords, personal information, or company secrets.
If you do everything with AI, your own skills may weaken. Use it as an aid, not a replacement for your own thinking.
And yes, AI can be used to create convincing fake news and deepfake videos. This is a real problem — be critical about what you see online.
How to use it safely
Check facts, especially for health, money, and legal matters. Keep personal information private. Use judgment — if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
AI is safe when used sensibly. The biggest risk isn’t that AI does something terrible, but that you trust it too much.
